Bradford Special Schools and the District Achievement Partnership
Since 2010 the 7 Special Schools have worked together to support school achievement. The DAP became a Company Limited by guarantee in March 2013.
It consists for all the Bradford Special Schools who have formalised their previous informal partnership working to ensure that no Bradford Special School is less than good.
The DAP offers school to school support, joint training sessions, moderation of P scales and sharing of information, skills and ideas to ensure Bradford children with special educational needs, attending special schools in the district, get the best possible education.
We have set up a DAP moderation website which has video examples to support moderation which we continue to build on. This website is free to any school wishing to use it.

The DAP consists of three primary generic co-located special schools, three generic co-located secondary schools, one 2-19 specialist school for Communication and Interaction and one specialist BESD school for KS3 and KS4 pupils
The three new primary special schools and locations in Bradford are
- Chellow Heights ( Bradford West)
- Delius (Bradford East)
- The Phoenix (Keighley)
The three new secondary schools, catering for pupils aged 11 to 19 years. The new secondary special schools are
- Beechcliffe (Keighley)
- Hazelbeck (Bradford West)
- Southfield ( Bradford South)
The seventh school is High Park, an all age school for Communication and Interaction difficulties located with Chellow Heights on the Belle Vue/ Heaton education campus of schools in Bradford West
The eighth school, The Oastler ,opened in September 2013. It is a specialist school for older pupils with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD) from across the Bradford District.
This is a summary for the Local Offer for children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) in our school. The Phoenix School is a Primary School for children with SLD, PMLD, ASD and complex medical health needs aged 2-11 years. Pupils at The Phoenix are within the range of 4-7 relating to the SEN guidance
At The Phoenix we deliver a broad, balanced curriculum which is developmentally and age appropriate. Our school ethos of ‘Smile, Reach, and Succeed’ ensures our pupils take an important, enjoyable and active part in the life of our school community.
We aim to provide a challenging and exciting curriculum that allows our pupils to reach their full potential, where every step, be it large or small is recognised and celebrated.
At The Phoenix, we work with a range of professionals to enhance and support our pupils’ learning experiences including Speech and Language Therapists who visit school on a weekly basis.
Their work involves assessing pupils and working with parents and class staff to develop and follow programmes with individual pupils. We have regular visits from the physiotherapists and input from the Visual and Multi-sensory Impairment teams.
We hold clinics in school with the Paediatric Consultants, Orthotics, Dentist, Dietician and CAMHS. All of these clinics are supported by the School Nursing Team and the School’s Care Team.
We offer our pupils the opportunities for developing their independence skills, the opportunity for the development of their life skills and we challenge their development for knowledge while providing a multi sensory experience for all.
We encourage our families to be involved with school life by providing a range of activities including training opportunities, coffee mornings, parents evenings, Friends of Phoenix parents group, Christmas and Summer Fairs, seasonal workshops, celebration assemblies and whole school performances. Pupils have access to specialist areas that enhance our pupils’ learning and life experiences.
These include our Forest School, Sensory Room, Kitchen, Design and Technology/Art Room, Rebound Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Soft Play.
The Phoenix has a 16 seater mini-bus and a wheelchair accessible mini-bus that enables our pupils to learn about the world outside school and gain experience and independence skills within the local community.
