Short Breaks

Beckfoot Phoenix Short Breaks
What are Short Breaks?
Short Breaks allow a disabled young person to have an enjoyable 1 day break away from their main carer and give their carer a break from their caring responsibilities.
Short Breaks take place in the holidays and may be an enjoyable day in the school, or may be a trip away for the day.
Is your child eligible?
  • Short Breaks core offer is for young people who: are 0 - 17 years old, members of Stay & Play or who attend Beckfoot Phoenix School, have an SEN statement/EHCP or receive DLA at the middle rate or above and due to your disability, cannot access leisure services in your area.
Parents/Carers are asked to apply, and decisions about allocation are made using the following guidelines:
  • Children who do not receive direct payment or any other social services respite care will be considered in the first round.
  • Children who receive direct payments or social services respite care for more than 6 hours a week will still be considered, but they will only be offered a place if one is available after all the children from the first round have been placed.
  • Places are offered subject to staffing and safety and if we can meet the needs of the child.
  • Contributing factors will also be transportation and on how many trips they have already been on.
  • The steering group will treat all applications on a fair and non judgemental basis and their decision is final.
  • If you fail to attend, this may jeopardise future placements.
