What are Short Breaks?
Short Breaks allow a disabled young person to have an enjoyable break away with their friends from their main carer during the school holidays.   
Places we have visited: Hesketh Farm, Pizza Hut in Bradford, Forbidden Corner, Ponderosa, St. Ives Bingley. 
Short Breaks are paid for through charity funding and is free for families who meet the following criteria.  It is staffed by qualified staff from Beckfoot Phoenix School. 
Is your child eligible?
  • The Short Breaks core offer is for young people who are:
    • 5 - 15 years old and have an EHCP or are in receipt of DLA/PIP at the 'middle rate' or above and due to the young person's disability, cannot access leisure services in their area. 
    • members of Beckfoot Phoenix Stay and Play Holiday Scheme
    • or who attend Beckfoot Phoenix Primary Special School.
Applications for Short Breaks should be made to Jason Patefield at Beckfoot Phoenix School.  
Please contact the school office for more information. 
The applications will be considered by the Beckfoot Phoenix Short Breaks Steering Group using the following criteria: 
    • Young people who do not receive direct payment or any other social services respite care, will be considered in the first round.
    • Young people who receive direct payment or social services respite care for more than 6 hours a week will still be considered, but they will only be offered a place if one is available after all the first round places have been allocated.
    • Places are offered subject to staffing, safety and an ability to meet the young person's need.
    • When allocating places, issues regarding transportation as well as previous short break allocation will also be considered.
