Grants for School Clothing and Free School Meals

This fund is for families experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19. This will not include people on benefits listed below who will qualify for free school meals and may be eligible for assistance with school clothing/uniforms.

Who may apply?

Parents/guardians of children in Year 3 to Year 11 for a free school meals grant and parents/guardians of children from Reception to Year 11 can apply if they are:

  1. A permanent resident of Bradford City Council
  2. NOT in receipt of any one of the following support payments:
  • Income Support
  • Child Tax Credit (with an annual income of less than £16,190 and not receiving Working Tax Credit)
  • Working Tax Credit (note: maximum income levels may apply)
  • Income based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit with an annual net earned income threshold of less than £7,400
  • Single parents on furlough and not entitled to any of the above benefits
  • BAME parents on furlough and not entitled to any of the above benefits
  • Households in receipt of Universal Credit but not receiving it
  • Households in receipt of JSA (contribution based element only)
  • A household not in receipt of qualifying benefits and earning less than £30k with a parent on furlough, on reduced hours or made redundant through COVID-19.

When and how to apply?

This is a small fund and grants are unlikely to be available after the end of October 2020.

What is the value of the grant?

Free school meals will be paid for one whole term for one child per family up to £150.

The value of the school clothing/uniform grant is up to £100 per family.

How is the grant paid?

  • Grants for school dinners will be paid directly to your child’s school.
  • Grants for school uniforms will be paid via a Bradford uniform shop. Where this is not possible a small number of grants will be paid directly to you.
