Wider Opportunities
At Beckfoot Phoenix, we want to provide opportunities for learning to continue beyond our lessons. We run club and activities throughout the year led by pupil need and interest. Our clubs and activities give children the chance to practice what they have learnt in lessons, learn new skills, and make new friends.
Music Therapy
At Beckfoot Pheonix we are pleased to be able to offer specialist music therapy from Nordoff and Robbins. Our music therapist Michael is a skilled and flexible musician who uses a range of instruments, play songs and improvisation to work with our children in creative and imaginative ways. This can offer them a way of connecting and communicating musically, as well as offering them self-expression through musical play.
Every music therapy session is based on musical participation. This is always collaborative, sometimes one to one, sometimes in groups. These collaborations are led by our children with support from Michael.

In school activities
Beckfoot Phoenix offers a wide range of exciting activities throughout the year, including whole-school workshops, parades celebrating religious festivals, sports day, and special events such as World Book Day, OBON Day, Children in Need, and Comic Relief.

Trips
Trips and residentials are a vital part of our curriculum at Beckfoot Phoenix. We believe in making learning as meaningful and relevant as possible by connecting it to real-life experiences.
Many of these learning opportunities take place within our local community. For example, when exploring different religions, students may visit local churches and mosques. To develop everyday skills, pupils might go shopping for snacks to practise using money, order food in a café to enhance communication skills, or visit the park to learn about social interaction and play. Road safety is also a key focus, with pupils learning how to stay safe by practising in real environments and using public transport.
To broaden our students’ experiences, we also travel further afield as part of topic-based learning. Previous trips have included exciting visits to places such as Blackpool Zoo, the Royal Armouries in Leeds, and the seaside. Our themed curriculum weeks provide further opportunities to engage with the wider community. During ‘Caring Me’ week, students visited a local residential care home to spend time with elderly residents, while ‘Safe Me’ week included a trip to our local police station to learn about safety in the community. These experiences are designed to enrich our curriculum, support personal development, and bring learning to life in engaging and memorable ways.
Special Visitors
At Beckfoot Phoenix, we regularly welcome visitors into school to enrich our curriculum and provide exciting, hands-on learning experiences. These visits are designed to inspire our students, enhance their understanding of the world, and bring learning to life in meaningful ways. Previous visitors have included:
- During ‘Caring Me’ week, students had the opportunity to bathe babies in class
- For ‘Active Me’ week we had visits from specialist yoga and dance instructors
- The Fire Brigade came to visit students during ‘Safe Me’ week. Children were able to sit in the fire engine, tried on helmets, turned on the sirens and used the hose
- Spiders, snakes and tortoises have come to school for children to hold
- Guide Dogs have attended our school, giving children the chance to meet working guide dogs and learn about the important role they play in supporting people with visual impairments.
