Pupil Voice

Pupil Voice at Beckfoot Phoenix

The pupils at Beckfoot Phoenix are the most important people in the school. We believe that it is their school and we want them to tell us what they think, what they feel, and what they like or dislike. This is exercised in a number of ways:

  • Communication – pupils use their voice, pictures, symbols or switches to tell us what they think
  • Pupil voice box – this is available at the front of the school for children to post their ideas, comments and complaints in
  • Assemblies – children are asked for their views and thoughts on things that matter to them, such as friendships and school dinners
  • Pupil voice week – every half term, the Junior Leadership Team will help staff to find out more about what children think about the school

Young Leaders

We see every child as a ‘leader’ in our school. Being a leader is about taking responsibility, helping and contributing to their school community. This is done in many way:

  • In class, helping a friend, giving our equipment, having a class job and leading the singing session
  • In school – taking the register, collecting the milk
  • Around school – holding doors open for others, leading the class to go to the hall, tidying away chairs after assembly

Junior Leadership Scheme

Junior Leaders play a very important role in the life of our school and are great advocates for the school. The criteria to become a Junior Leader is that they are sensible, helpful and kind. Junior Leaders come from any class or base in school and receive specific jobs that help the school and support their peers:

  • Helping and working in different classes
  • Buddying up with children at playtime
  • Supporting children in assemblies and helping them back to class
  • Taking a lead on pupil voice
  • Welcoming visitors and showing them around the school
  • Helping new children and families settle in
