Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Young Leaders

At Beckfoot Phoenix, we see every child as a 'leader' in our school.
Being a leader is about taking responsibility, helping, and contributing to the life of the school.  In our school, children do this in lots of different ways:

In class - helping a friend, giving out equipment, having a class job, eg. washing up, leading the singing session.
In school - taking the register, collecting the milk,
Around school - holding doors open for others, leading the class to go to the hall, tidying away chairs after assembly.
We also have a JUNIOR LEADERSHIP SCHEME in school.  Junior leaders play a very important role in the life of our school and are great advocates for the school.  The criteria to become a Junior Leader is that they are 'sensible, helpful and kind'.  Junior Leaders can be from any class or base in school.  They are very important and so wear a blue 'Junior Leader' tabard or armband.
Children who are part of this scheme have very specific jobs to do that help school and help others.
These include:
  • helping/working in different classes.
  • buddying up with children at playtimes.
  • supporting children in assemblies and helping them back to class.
  • taking a lead on pupil voice.
  • welcoming visitors and showing them round school and
  • helping new children and families settle in.
